This week in Year 1, we have been taking part in a range of different learning. We have really enjoyed opening and playing in our shop and learning about money; choosing the prices for our fruit and vegetables then using our addition skills to add amounts up to find the total price. When then used out outside blocks to build a kitchen to cook our food.

In our water and sand trays, we have been comparing how much water and sand different containers can hold.

Using our science knowledge we have carefully looked around our garden for arthropods (insects) and visited the chickens to talk about their physical characteristics. We were also fortunate enough to see a hungry red kite flying low above our playground, searching for food. We discussed that it was a bird of prey and has amazing eye sight so as it flies it is scanning the ground for its dinner.

‘A chicken is a bird because it has lots of feathers and wings and a beak.’

‘Grasshoppers are arthropods.’

‘The bread is 100p for 2. The bread is 50p’

‘It has sharp claws to catch its food.’ – red kite
