Unity Day – A Celebration of Culture and Community

Unity Day at Drapers’ Maylands Primary School was a vibrant celebration of our diverse school community and a highlight of our international learning calendar. The event brought together pupils, staff and families to celebrate the many cultures represented in our school.

The afternoon began with an energetic performance by a live steel drum band, setting the tone for a joyful, inclusive atmosphere. Throughout the afternoon, families were invited to share food from their own cultural backgrounds, creating a colourful and delicious international buffet. From Caribbean patties to Polish pierogi, Indian samosas, and Spanish tortilla, there was something for everyone to try—and every dish told a story.

Some children and adults came dressed in traditional clothing, proudly representing their heritage. Cultural exchange, music, and dance workshops added to the festive spirit, allowing pupils to explore and celebrate global traditions through hands-on experiences.
