DMPS Christmas Around the World Advent Calendar
December 2025 : A Month of International Celebrations
At Drapers’ Maylands Primary School, December was dedicated to exploring how different cultures around the world celebrate during the festive season. Led by Mrs Keene, the entire school community was invited to share their Christmas traditions, creating a collaborative and inclusive celebration of global customs.
As part of this initiative, Mrs Keene designed a unique interactive advent calendar, where each day a virtual calendar "door" revealed a new country and its Christmas traditions. Pupils learned about a wide range of customs—from festive foods and songs to traditional decorations and celebrations in countries such as Poland, Mexico, Italy, and the Philippines. This engaging activity sparked curiosity, encouraged classroom discussions, and helped children make meaningful connections between culture and celebration.

In addition, we continued to strengthen our link with our Spanish partner school by sharing Christmas songs. Each class at Drapers’ Maylands learned and recorded a Christmas song, which was then sent to our Spanish friends. In return, we received songs from them—creating a heartwarming cultural exchange through music that was enjoyed by both pupils and staff.
These December activities helped to promote intercultural understanding, celebrate the diversity within our own school, and foster connections with the wider world in a joyful, memorable way.
