20th October 2021 Learning Beyond the Classroom

Maylands Primary was very excited to welcome top athlete Frederick Afrifa to our school on Wednesday 06 October 2021.

He led a sponsored fitness circuit activities and even a race with Year 6! Children enjoyed talking to him and asking questions about what it means to be a top athlete.

The event raised awareness of the importance for us all to be more physically active, Frederick also spoke to the children about encouraging them to discover and pursue their passion in life.

Total raised for sports equipment was an amazing £2642.61! What a fabulous community effort form all involved, thank you.

The children were very enthusiastic in joining in, here is what some of them had to say:

Freddie 'I liked doing the push ups - it was so much fun!'

Maya 'I did squats and now I am big and strong!'

Nadine 'We did gym work, like push ups and it was a bit tricky'.

Ariyo 'I enjoyed the press ups because I like doing exercises. It makes me happy'.

Valeria ‘I enjoyed doing the star jumps, push ups and squats because I like sports. I enjoyed meeting Frederick because he likes running and I like running too.’

Fareedah ‘I liked the part where Frederick was running and he tripped but he didn’t give up. I learned that we should always show determination.’

George ‘I enjoyed doing push ups because it will help me get stronger. I learned that we have to practise to get better at something.’

Hollie ‘I really enjoyed working with Fred Afrifa because I have never done anything like that before.’

Emmanuel ‘My favourite part was doing the press-ups because I am good at those’.

Thank you again to all the family and friend of Maylands that helped support the event.
