It has been another busy week in Year 6, continuing our learning about the indigenous people of North America. We learnt about the origin of dreamcatchers, and the children wrote the Ojibwe legend of Nokomis and the Spider. Then, they began to weave our own dreamcatchers. We all now have a much greater appreciation for the craftsmanship and patience weavers must have!

In Maths this week we have continued to become 'Masters of Numbers', revising what we know about place value and decimals. We have also been improving our accuracy and speed at completing calculations with decimal numbers.

In Science the children made models, after learning the names of the different parts of the heart. Using plastic bottles to represent the atrium, ventricle and body, and straws to represent the valves they demonstrated the movement of blood around the body.

The children have been improving their sketching skills in art, and have enjoyed learning how to show light using different gradients. They have sketched a variety of 3D shapes and an apple, showing the light and dark areas and shadows.

We have almost reached the end of our class book 'Holes' and the children are really excited to make predictions, spot hidden clues in the story and link different sub-plots together. Next week we hope to celebrate the end of the first half-term by enjoying watching the film version together. Well done to all of the children who have been patiently waiting to enjoy this moment together!
