Pupil Voice
We asked pupils across all year groups to reflect on the learning experiences they have had at Drapers' Maylands and share their opinions on Learning Beyond the Classroom. The pupils shared some wonderful things about their LBtC visits and experiences:
"I loved World Book Day because I got to dress up like a dinosaur from the book ‘The Dinosaur that Doesn’t want to go to School’. The farm (visis) was brilliant too! I got to meet lots of animals like chickens, sheep and goats. I was allowed to brush them and they liked it, but the chicken kept running away’."
Reception pupil
"You get to go to Forest School cause you can balance and climb on trees or just dig to make an escape tunnel. It’s so fun every time to go to Forest School."
Reception pupil
"I would really like to go to the beach again because you get to have fish and chips or sausage and chips! Music day was super fun because Hedgehog class won the prize...(Sensational Singers). We were the best singers and dancers!"
Reception pupil
"‘I loved when we went to Queen’s Theatre to see Cinderella! We got to see the whole show and it was so much fun. Then we had a famous gymnast, and she showed us how to do the splits, the crab how to roll over the mat."
Reception pupil
"The farm was good, but I didn’t think I was going to like the animals, but I actually did. And we have guinea pigs, rabbits, ducks and fish at our school!"
Reception pupil
"At our school we have so many good things like, World Book Day, visits to the beach, Elmer Day and Music Week... that we won!"
Reception pupil
"I would really like to do more things like Masterchef, because I want to cook different things and I want to be in the final!"
Reception pupil
"I loved making the flapjacks for my family and making jam sandwiches."
Reception pupil
"I really enjoyed making cupcakes with a melted snowman on top!"
Reception pupil
"I was so proud of being in Masterchef with P. We had to make fruit skewers and pizza with peppers, sweetcorn and cheese!"
Reception pupil
"I like going to the library and reading all the books. I like to sit in the tree house."
Reception pupil
"It was great going to the beach because we went in the water and ate sausage and chips!"
Reception pupil
"I have loved painting because I have learned to make different art. I know how to blend using the dry paintbrush and making beach pictures and putting on real sand."
Reception pupil
"I like going to visit the rabbits and going into the hut with them. They are so cute and they like cuddles."
Reception pupil
"I loved being Godfrey Humps in Nativity...I love dancing and singing so much!"
Reception pupil
"Diwali was so great. We learned all about it and learned dancing and made diva lamps and we dressed up and so did the teachers."
Reception pupil
"I liked Sports Day, because I can run and I like pulling the rope. It's fun. We learn about the Great Fire of London and we have been painting houses outside and other children were reading on a picnic blanket. I would love to do lots of PE outside. We can learn about new animals and plants in the Quiet Garden."
Year 2 pupil
"I liked learning multiplication and division outside using sticks and chalk. I would say that this school is good because we get to cook some food, and we try it to see it's good. We learnt about the Great Fire of London and putting all the bits together. We get to look after animals and give them a stroke. It makes me feel great that we get to have animals in this school not other people do. If we could learn more things outside and do gardening and planting flowers. Yes, because it is a bit more peaceful. When you are inside people get louder."
Year 2 pupil
"I really liked Forest School because I got to be free in nature and I got to explore. We get school trips and we get to learn new things. We got to do swimming and went to the British Museum and Kew Gardens. We are lucky to have Forest School, as not everyone has it. We have lots of fun with our learning; we get to do extra things, for different experiences. I found swimming great, as I got to exercise but I would like to have races. It helped me learn about being careful, using teamwork skills and determination. We did Flat Slan First Aid, where we learnt about bandages and plasters. I learnt when they're needed and when they're not. Because of this training, I applied to be a First Aider in Year 5. I had an interview and got the job!"
Year 4 pupil
"I have really enjoyed Forest School because we get to go every two weeks and I loved to feel free in nature. I have also really enjoyed our school trips because we gain lots of knowledge from having an experience outside of school. This year, we have done lots of Learning Beyond the Classroom, such as: the British Museum, Kew Gardens, Forest School, Roman Showcase, Trunk Theatre. I like it so much because we get to explore and gain more knowledge. It helps learning outside the classroom, as well as inside. Jigsaw Outdoors was new and really great because it's peaceful to be out in nature and to hear the birds squawking and the trees rustling while we learn. I wouldn't have learnt that being out in nature would help with being so calm, if I hadn't been able to go outside to learn. I wouldn't have been able to see ancient tools in real life, if I hadn't gone to the museum."
Year 4 pupil
"Jigsaws Outdoors Reading Colouring Art Science - web of life, linking animals. History. 'At this school, we do a range of activities outside. We can read outside, visit the various animals such as ducks and rabbits'. 'I think we should learn outside for every subject at least once a year' 'Perhaps we could do the CLIC part of the maths outside or use chalk on the floor to demonstrate learning'. Enjoyed learning about staying safe next to train tracks."
Year 4 pupil
"Going to Forest School, I have enjoyed learning new skills in the forest. They are skills that I can use outside of school as well which is really helpful."
Year 6 pupil
"I like that we go on lots of school trips to help us with our learning such as the university visit which made us think about the future. We also get to experience lots of different cultures during WOW days e.g. trying food from China, India and Jordan."Year 6 pupil
"I would like if we did more Writing outside, especially creative writing (e.g. writing about the forest in the forest)"
Year 6 pupil
"It has helped me with my creativity because I have a wider imagination because of it."
