A Fantastic First Week Back for Year 6!
What a fantastic first week back for our Polecat and Pine Marten classes! It has been wonderful to see the children return with such enthusiasm, curiosity and excitement for the year ahead.
A huge well done and thank you to everyone for completing such wonderful home learning over the summer. The children particularly enjoyed sharing their class animal projects, finding out more about each other’s chosen animals and celebrating the effort and creativity that had gone into their work.
We have also made an exciting start to our Harold Hill Historian topic. The children have shown a fantastic interest in our learning about World War 2, beginning by exploring propaganda and considering how and why it was used to influence people's thoughts and feelings during the war. The children have enjoyed discussing different examples and beginning to think critically about the messages they communicated.
Our Year 6s also had the opportunity to take part in a LAMDA session with Miss Whittaker. Working collaboratively, the children were challenged to construct and perform a short performance as part of a team. It was fantastic to see them sharing ideas, listening to one another and building confidence as performers.
The children also stepped back in time to London during the Blitz, imagining what life would have been like for a child living through this challenging period. They used their historical knowledge and imagination to write a short episode from the perspective of a child during the Blitz, thinking carefully about sights, sounds, emotions and experiences.
Alongside all of this exciting learning, the children have been working hard to improve their handwriting in preparation for receiving their much-anticipated pen licences. They have shown great determination and are beginning to take real pride in presenting their work neatly and carefully.
It has been a brilliant first week, and we are incredibly proud of the positive attitudes, enthusiasm and resilience shown by both Polecat and Pine Marten classes. We can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings!
