Year 1 Science Week

To celebrate Science Week, today we considered the following questions:  

Where do we live?

Where is the moon and why don’t we see it all the time? 

We began by looking at a globe of the Earth, the planet that we live on. We watched as our teacher demonstrated how the Earth orbits the sun, using a torch to represent this, and a ping pong ball to show the position and orbit of the moon. Then, we created our own artistic representations of the Earth and moon. We used green and blue tissue paper to create a collage for the land and water, and puffy paint to demonstrate the bumpy surface of the moon, dropping marbles to create lunar craters!

Through Chatta, we also studied the life and work of Franklin Chang-Diaz, a Costa Rican Astronaut who holds the record for the most spaceflights.
