An incredible discovery was unearthed by Year 3 at Maylands this week as an Anglo Saxon longboat washed up on the shores of the playground. Inside, we discovered a number of incredible artefacts including a sword, helmet and shield.
- The Anglo-Saxons settled in Britain around 450AD.
- The Anglo-Saxons came from Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands.
- Many of the Anglo-Saxons that came over were farmers.
- The Anglo-Saxons had a very varied diet.
- The Anglo-Saxons lived in wooden huts.
- The first Anglo-Saxons were Pagans.
We took the artefacts back to class and investigated who used them and for what purpose. We also discussed what primary and secondary sources of historical evidence are.
