Year 6 - Music from Around the World

In Music today, Year 6 enjoyed learning about the traditional style of music in Angola called ‘Semba’. They looked at some traditional instruments (conga drums) and listened to music which originated in Angola. The children were able to tap along to the rhythm of the Semba style music and then used non-tuned percussion style instruments to create a new rhythm.

Furthermore, the children showed that they could also listen to a new piece of music and use what they had previously learnt about pitch and rhythm to create their own music to a song. The children used different instruments and created a rhythm to the new Portuguese song. They thoroughly enjoyed this task and then performed their song to the rest of the class.

Well done Year 6 for showing good understanding of rhythm and pitch and for using new vocabulary throughout the lesson.
