Year 6 - Diwali and World Science Day
Back to Latest News
What an exciting week we’ve had in Year 6!
On Wednesday we celebrated World Science Day, where we spent the day exploring the human circulatory system. We learnt about the different components of blood: white blood cells, red blood cells, plasma and platelets, and discovered the key roles that each of them play within the body. In the afternoon we even got to make a model of blood. Why not ask your child what we used to represent each component?
We also took part in a Diwali Dance Workshop. We had the opportunity to learn a traditional Diwali dance from a professional dancer. We enjoyed learning moves such as the lotus flower and the peacock, and performed our dance in front of our peers. Ask your child to perform their favourite dance move from the session!
During Literacy this week we continued our role of journalists and wrote a newspaper report all about the Maylands’ Firework Spectacular that took place last Friday. We continued to focus on creating engaging headlines, well-crafted opening sentences and using interesting vocabulary.
In Theme this week we learnt all about Native American Totem Poles and the significance behind them. We also began to design our very own Totem Poles, which we will be creating in Design Technology next week! Ask your child which animals they chose to include in their Totem Pole designs.
