Year 6 - Digestion Comics
Back to Latest News
This week we have enjoyed writing as Stanley Yelnats, the main character from our class book 'Holes'. In the story, Stanley begins to write a letter home to his Mum but is interrupted and it is left unfinished. The children were challenged to complete his letter - first, writing as though he was having a wonderful time, and then being honest about the dire conditions at the camp.
In Maths the children have enjoyed continuining to use a compass to accurately draw a circle, and have been calculating circumferences using the mathematical formula:
c = 3.14 x d
In Theme the children have continued learning about North America, focusing on the different biomes found across the continent. Did you know? North America is the third largest continent in the world, and the largest biome found there is the grasslands on The Great Plains of the US and Canada.
In Science we continued our learning about the digestive system. The children were able to match the different parts of the system with the important jobs that they do, and have each created a comic strip explaining how it works.
The children were really excited to have two Performing Arts sessions with Miss Lawrence this week, where they continued learning a song from Matilda the Musical. Ask them to perform the first verse for you at home.
