1st October 2021 Squirrel Class

This week in Year 1 we have learnt some basic First Aid with Flat Stan. We learnt a variety of skills such as how to put someone in the recovery position, what to do if someone has a noise bleed, what to do if we have a burn and we even used Flat Stan to practise helping someone if they choke.

All children were very sensible and focused when learning these skills and had some very interesting and suitable questions that we discussed and were answered.

Each child was provided with a Flat Stan First Aid booklet that has all the information children learnt. Please try and take some time to read through the booklet and ask your child some 'What would you do if...?' questions linked to the book.

These are some of the things that the children have learnt during their training:

'When you bleed from your nose, you need to hold the squishy bit for 10 minutes.'

'You put your hands like this and you push hard. It's called CPR.'

'You call 999 if someone needs help.'

We have also been taking part in a wide range of learning during our free learning time, using our climbing frame, our contruction area to build and measure creations and taking care of our garden.

During our Forest School session we enjoyed investigating our natural environment, searching for different insects, building dens and swinging in the swing.
