Year 4 have had an exciting start to their new Ancient Greece topic by stepping back in time and immersing themselves in the cultures of Athens and Sparta!

To begin, the children randomly selected a role in Athenian society. Some became children, spending their time playing traditional games, while others became aristocrats, enjoying food, taking naps and creating artwork. Our artisans got creative, making pots to sell in the market, while our builders experienced what life might have been like constructing important buildings.

We then travelled across to Sparta, where the children quickly discovered just how different life could be! They took on different roles as boys, girls, men and women and experienced aspects of Spartan life, including the demanding agoge, the training and education system for Spartan boys.

Through this immersive experience, the children have begun to understand that there was no single way to experience life in Ancient Greece. Life could be very different depending on where you lived, your age, your gender and your place in society.

We can't wait to see where our journey through Ancient Greece takes us next!
