This week we continued to be inspired by Aaron Becker's beautiful picture book - Journey.

We looked at the lanterns in the forest illustration and learnt about the origin of lanterns in real life. We studied some examples of lanterns, learning about some of the festivals in Asia where they are used. Then the children started a project to create their own lanterns.

First the children had to design and create mandalas for the sides of the lantern. Then they made a frame using lollipop sticks and a glue gun. Finally, in Science, the children learnt about simple series circuits and used the correct components to make a simple circuit with a bulb. Once the elements were brought together they got to see their lantern lit up, and enjoyed listening to a story around it.

The children had a go at recording their own audio books as a narrative to accompany the stunning illustrations.
