Year 3 - Designing Shadufs

Continuing with our theme work on rivers and Ancient Egypt, Year 3 spent the afternoon learning about Shadufs.

A shaduf is a simple, hand-operated device used to lift water from a lower source to a higher level, typically for irrigation.

It consists of a long, pivoted pole with a bucket or container attached to one end and a counterweight on the other.

The shaduf was invented in ancient times and is still used in parts of Africa and Asia today.

Year 3 then designed their own shaduf and made a prototype. After half term, Year 3 will build a working Shaduf during Design and Technology and test its working viability.
