Welcome to Draper’s Maylands Primary School Sports Blog. On this page, we will give you the latest information on sporting events and talk about how to improve your health and mental awareness. If you want to find out more, read on!

Mile Run

Firstly, let’s talk about the Mile run. The Mile run is held every term in our local forest, the Manor. It’s a fantastic experience because everyone, including adults, participates, whether they run or walk. The route through the Manor is carefully marshalled by the Year 6 learners who not only keep a watchful eye, but encourage and motivate everybody to keep going.

“I really enjoyed it because my legs got stronger each time I did it.”

Clubs

At Maylands, there are a variety of different sports clubs available every day of the week. On Mondays, the netball club trains hard to master their footwork and passing and has played valiantly against other schools. Tuesday is basketball club and if you want to join you need to sign up as soon as possible because spaces go quickly! You can learn new skills and enjoy being on a team. On Wednesdays, before school, a mixed football club works diligently to perfect their shooting and defending. Some of these children have been lucky enough to participate in matches that showcased their skill. Multi-sports is on a Thursday and every week you learn about different sports and the skills needed for each one. Finally, on a Friday, before school is gymnastics where you can learn tumbles, kicks, flicks and combine them into sequences.

If you would like to join any of these clubs, then let us know and you could be part of the next Maylands sports team that makes a difference!

Outside of School Achievements

Many of the learners at Drapers’ take part in activities outside of school and we are lucky enough to celebrate their achievements with them. A child in Year 1 received two medals for playing football and scoring goals for his team. Another learner from Year 1 earned two certificate for showing confidence and skill during his ballet performance. In Year 4, three learners were awarded medals and trophies for their football skills, including player of the year! We celebrated a learner who excels at jiu jitsu and another child who received a trophy for her traditional dancing.

We will continue to celebrate all these wonderful achievements in the new academic year. Will you be the one we celebrate next?

Maylands Euros 2024

This year, Maylands held its very first Euros competition. Each class from Year 3 to 6 divided up into teams and participated in mini football matches. Well done to the winners, Italy and Germany, from Year 4 and Year 6.

“We had so much fun and felt very proud when we scored a goal.”

“Playing football was great because it is not a sport that I usually play.”

Sports Day

This year’s Sports Day was full of excitement and anticipation as all four house teams went head to head to try and claim the winning cup. The music was invigorating and energised all the pupils to keep moving and do their best. Teachers and adults also joined in with the fun and even after another broken tug-of-war rope, everyone was in high spirits.

Well done to the Romans, who were this year’s winners.

Thank you for reading our blog, we will see you all again in September.

Don’t forget to stay positive in all that you do and remind yourself that you can do excellent things!
