Year 2 - Outdoor Classroom Day

This week we were excited to celebrate Outdoor Classroom Day 2024!

Drapers' Maylands is a Gold Learning Outside the Classroom mark holder.  Outdoor Classroom Day is a global movement to inspire and celebrate outdoor play and learning, at home and at school. We celebrated this day doing really exciting things.

During Maths, we learnt how to multiply and divide by 10 using a place value chart made with natural resources. It was such a fun activity to do outside! After this, we went to the orchard to immerse ourselves in our reading lesson.

During Forest School, children enjoyed being in the nature. They climbed trees, balanced on fallen branches, they worked in a team to build a shelter and enjoyed swinging in the swing. Some children took part in a scavenger hunt!

During this week, Year 2 noticed that in the Science Garden we have some headghog houses. We have never seen headghogs around though. Then, we realised what the problem was! There was no space in the fence for them to go through. After some research we learnt there is something called Headghog Highway. This is a safe space for headghogs to go in and out of their houses. We decided to write some letters to Mr Sarkis to convince him help us build a headghog highway. We had fun doing this and now we know headghogs will be safe living in our school grounds.
