Year 3 - Year of the Dragon

Wow! What an incredibly busy week it has been in Year 3!

This week we challenged the children to learn a poem off by heart and perform it to their classmates. We were so impressed with the children for learning the entire poem in just a couple of sessions, and they did a wonderful job of performing it too! Why not ask them to perform it for you at home?

The children also had the opportunity to write poetry this week, first writing a poem inspired by dreams for a national competition, and then writing a kenning poem about dragons. The children are welcome to have a go at writing a poem at home, and bringing it into school if they want to create a competition entry - it should be a poem, written by them, that is either about a dream they have had in the past, a dream they have for the future or a dream world they have created.

In Maths we have been talking about 3D shapes and their properties, as well as looking at telling the time. Some children are finding reading an analogue clock challenging - please ask your child to tell the time at home and support them if it is needed. 

At the end of the week the children were extremely lucky to be invited to take part in a Lunar New Year dance workshop. We have been learning about how the Lunar New Year is celebrated, and the children know lots about the 15-day festival. They really enjoyed sharing this knowledge with Jess, the dance teacher, and learning the choreography for a dance. At the end of the session they performed using the parasol and fan props she had brought. Some children even got to dance as the dragon! 

Otter Class enjoyed making dragon soup, climbing trees, making friendship bracelets, defending their palace and building shelters at Forest School. 

Next week we look forward to doing some cooking, and learning more about the Year of the Dragon!
