Year 3 - Dreams and Goals
Back to Latest News
As part of our PSHE lessons this week the children have thought about their 'Dreams and Goals'. Their discussion centred around the different challenges that people might face in their pursuit to achieve their goals. In the afternoon the children worked in teams to design a playground or garden for someone who faces a particular challenge.
The children have continued writing their stories inspired by Billy's Quest to find her missing pet this week. Ask them to describe one of the settings to hear the new vocabulary they have learnt. We have written about: an arctic storm; a deep, dark forest; an arid desert and 'Grimbly Mountain'.
This week in Maths we have continued practising using different methods for addition, doubling and halving 2 digit numbers, and finding lines of symmetry in 2d shapes. Check that your child knows the following facts off by heart: Half of 300 is 150, Half of 500 is 250, Half of 700 is 350, Half of 900 is 450.
In Science we continued our learning about Forces. We read 'Mr Grinling's Lighthouse' and decided to conduct an investigation to see which zipline would get Mr Grinling's lunch to him quickest. The children had to make a prediction and then test each zipline, recording the time taken for the basket to reach the end. Ask them to explain why the basket travelled faster along some ziplines than others.
We have been learning the names of ten animals in Spanish. Ask your child how many they can remember - use the photo attached to help you.
