Year 1 Time Travellers
Back to Latest News
On Tuesday, Year 1 had a very exciting afternoon acting as time travellers to visit shops from the past and present. In Squirrel Class, children took a trip to the past to visit more traditional shops such as a bakery, sweet shop, green grocers and butchers. Children wrote their shopping lists by hand and used coins and notes to pay for their goods. In Rabbit Class, children explored shops from the present day, such as the supermarket, Chinese takeaway, Starbucks, online shopping, and even an Amazon delivery station. Children used cash or bank cards.
The children loved acting out each of the different areas, from customers and shopkeepers, to servers and delivery drivers. After, we considered the similarities and differences between shops now and shops in the past, and how shopping experiences and behaviours have changed over time.
"The sweet shop was my favourite because we got little cups to put the sweets in to weigh them"
"My favourite shop was the car mat in rabbit because I delivered stuff for Miss Culllum"
"The bakery was my favourite. I bought some croissants, some cake and some bread"
