Year 2 - Visit to Colchester Zoo

Following their Science learning about animals and habitats, Year 2 have travelled to Colchester Zoo to learn even more about animals. We enjoyed the workshop that took place in the zoo and we even got to feel leopard's fur from different habitats.

Going around the zoo was fun and exciting! We loved observing the elephants, zebras and rhinos from the distance. When we visited the tigers, Taiga and Tanana (these are their names) they were cooling down in the water and camouflaging in the bushes.

After our visit to the zoo, we received a letter from the zookeeper telling us that a meerkat had escaped from the zoo and had snuck into one of our bags, it was hiding somewhere in the school. Until we could return the meerkat we needed to make it somewhere to live with everything he needs to survive. We used lots of different resources to create a habitat for the meerkat and worked cooperatively.

During our computing lessons we have been working with technology to collect data about animals living in the school grounds. First we went for a walk around the school and created a tally chart with the amount of animals we spotted. Then we used computers to create a graph. This was a fun activity and we enjoyed working in a team.

Year 2 love exploring in the forest. During our sessions, we have been creating pictures using nature, making fairy houses, climbing trees and getting very muddy!
