20th October 2023 Learning Beyond the Classroom

This half term's theme was ‘Changes’ and the Year 1 helped to select the books for display. They enjoyed finding books so much so, that they chose 8 books. The books that were on display were:

  • Mine by Sue Heap
  • Superbat by Matt Carr
  • Max the Brave by Ed Vere
  • Fly Chick Fly by Jeanne Willis
  • If you can... We can! By Beth Shoshan
  • The Nut Stayed Shut by Mike Henson
  • Maisy Goes to Nursery by Lucy Cousins
  • Billy and the Big New School by Laurence Anholt

After much deliberation, the top book that the children enjoyed the most was...

Billy and the Big New School by Laurence Anholt

Close second was:

Max the Brave by Ed Vere

What children had to say about the books this term:

I only started this school this year and I was so nervous when starting. I love it now, but I know what Billy was feeling before.

It's brave like our word in Talk Through Stories

I think people would like this book because you can see how Billy is happy to go to school by the end of the book.

It's like when we started Year 1 and I was a bit scared, but now I’m not.

I sometimes feel like Billy, so was nice to see a character that I could sympathise with.

It made me feel like I could achieve what I wanted with determination.
