Year 6 - Across Asia Again
Back to Latest News
This week we went on another adventure in Year 6! To continue our learning about Asia we decided to take another trip across the continent and visit three more countries; South Korea, Sri Lanka and Taiwan.
In Sri Lanka the children went on their own 'tuktuk tour' visiting main sights such as Sigiriya, Ulawalawe Safari Park, The Hill Country and the South Coast. Children tasted blue tea made from the flowers of the butterfly pea plant, learnt how tea is harvested and prepared in Ella, discovered the tradition of stilt fishing and learnt the tale of Lion Rock.
In South Korea the children enjoyed learning about the culture of the country; enjoying K-Pop hits and learning some choreography to dance along with internationally renowned band BTS, learning how to write their names using the Korean alphabet and tasting kimchi for the first time!
In Taiwan Year 6 were really excited to make and taste their own boba (bubble tea) recipes! After finding out about the landmarks in Taiwan, the children took on the challenge of creating their own earthquake-proof buildings, inspired by the engineering of Taipei 101.
Later in the week we wrote letters home from the countries that the children had visited, as well as travel adverts to persuade others to take a trip to Sri Lanka, South Korea or Taiwan! The list of places that the children are hoping to visit later in life is growing every week!
As well as their Geography learning, the children have made a great effort in Spanish this week - learning lots of food vocabulary. They also enjoyed continuing their learning about Evolution and Fossils; creating top trumps, diary entries and fact files about dinosaurs. We also saw some amazing home learning projects about paleontology this week, so well done for the great effort Year 6!
