Today, Year 5 enjoyed a fun-filled day at the Tower of London. As part of our new unit of learning, ‘Castles and Crowns,’ we had the opportunity to visit the Tower of London, one of the castles where Henry VIII lived.

Children enjoyed visiting lots of different exhibits at the Tower of London. They loved seeing the Crown Jewels, including the Royal Regalia which is used at the coronation of new monarchs.

We were very lucky as we had the opportunity to listen to Yeomen tell us all about what life used to be like inside the tower. They told us facts about the executions that took place at the tower, including those of Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard.

As we have been enjoying our current class reader ‘The Executioner’s Daughter,’ we were keen to visit the locations which were mentioned in the book. We were able to visit Traitor’s Gate and Tower Green, where the private executions used to take place.

Year 5 absolutely loved every part of this busy day. Some of the children said:

‘I can’t believe we’re inside the Tower of London’

‘Tower Green is so beautiful’

‘My favourite part of the day was seeing the precious Crown Jewels’

At home, ask your child what their favourite exhibit was at the Tower of London.
