Year 5 - Festival of Reading
Back to Latest News
The 2023 Festival of Reading has ended today after a very successful two weeks. Year 5 have enjoyed taking part in a range of activities to celebrate their love for reading during this time.
Last Friday, Year 5 completed paired reading alongside pupils in Year 2. They were able to use their reading expertise to support pupils in Year 2 with their reading. They also asked Year 2 pupils a range of questions to check they have a good understanding of their book, and helped them when they were unsure. Well done Year 5 for being fantastic role models to younger pupils in the school!
When visiting the library this week, Year 5 were also very pleased to see that new Laugh Out Loud books have been added to the library in celebration of the Festival of Reading. They enjoyed reading books that may have been a different genre to what they usually read, and they are excited to vote for their favourite Laugh Out Loud book in few weeks.
Year 5 have also impressed us with their love for learning with our new unit, 'Castles and Crowns.' Many children have gravitated towards reading books which will tell them more about our unit, whether they be books about 'The Nasty Past- Crime and Disease' or books from the Horrible Histories Collection, including 'Terrible Tudors' and 'Gorgeous Georgians'. They have used their knowledge from these books to support their peers with their History learning.
Keep showing your love for reading Year 5!
