Year 6 - Forest School Tools

The children in Year 6 have been learning how to safely use a sheath knife and mallet to create the battens of wood they will need to build a fire. 

Hettie Heron showed them how to get into a safe position to use the tools and then children worked carefully in partners to prepare the firewood for next session. 

We were very proud of how sensible and mature they were when using these tools. Next time they will learn how to build and start a safe fire to heat water or cook on in the firepit.
