Year 6 - Across Asia
Back to Latest News
This week we started our new theme in Year 6: The Far East. We launched our learning topic with an exciting adventure across three different countries in Asia; Jordan, Japan and India.
After a brief flight with Korean Air, the children visited each of the three countries across the day - experiencing cuisine and culture in each place.
In Jordan the children tasted falafel, hummus and pitta breads whilst learning about the country's most famous sights and landmarks. Then, they created watercolour paintings of Petra's The Treasury whilst enjoying peppermint tea. Some children learnt how to write their first name in Arabic, and added it to their artwork. Did you know; you can walk across the entire country of Jordan in just 40 days?
In Japan the children learnt how to make their own origami crane and enjoyed homemade sushi with soy sauce. They enjoyed finding out about different Japanese traditions, and learning how to count in Japanese. Did you know; karaoke, which was invented in Japan, means empty orchestra?
In India the children were treated to a yoga session with Ms Jones, and had the opportunity to look at photographs from her travels whilst enjoying poppadoms with mango chutney and raita. They loved finding out about some of the unusual things that you can see if you visit India. Did you know; the Taj Mahal in India took over 20 years to build?
Later in the week we wrote letters home to tell someone about our travels, as well as persuasive adverts to encourage others to visit these three incredible countries. Ask your child to tell you their favourite fact about each place!
