This week, year 3 have enjoyed making Ancient Egyptian shadufs. We studied the uses of the River Nile in Ancient Egypt, before looking at tools which made the lives of Ancient Egyptians easier.
Shadufs are irrigation devices which use levers to move water from lower ground to higher ground. Year 3 looked at levers, and had to ensure that their design included one of these. They needed to choose materials appropriately to ensure their Shadufs were fit for purpose. Each child made their own Shaduf and then we tested them out!
Thank you to everyone who donated yoghurt pots!
Ask your child:
- What is a shaduf?
- If you made your shaduf again, what would you do differently?
