It has been another busy week in Year 6 full of exciting learning! We have continued with our topic 'The Wild West', moving on to learning about life in America in the late 19th century; cowboys, outlaws and sheriffs. Before Christmas we found out all about Native Americans, and the children have used their understanding of this to address misconceptions that people may have about life on the Western Frontier. After learning about some of the famous outlaws of The Wild West, children created Wanted posters and performed a history podcast in Chatta.

Year 6 enjoyed having an additional PE session this week; improving their throwing, catching, jocking and marking skills in Tag Rugby. The children showed good communication, teamwork and sportsmanship. They have enjoyed the challenge of improving their fitness, and are building on their stamina every week.

We also continued our new Science topic of Evolution this week, exploring some real fossils. We learnt about the four main types of fossil: trace, body, resin and mould; investigating the collection in class and identifying the different types. We had some amazing examples of fossils, dating up to 55 million years old! The children loved handling, studying and identifying the different types of plant and animal fossils in class. Ask them to tell you what these fossils can help us to learn.
