Year 5 enjoyed a day of computing on Thursday where they learnt how to use software’s like ‘Scratch’ and ‘Sketch Me’.

The children were excellent at breaking codes to find secret messages and using Morse code to communicate with their friends. They used flags to send semaphore messages to each other and learnt how to connect without the use of verbal communication.

Before using ‘Scratch’, in groups of two the children planned and devised their own game, after they used the software to create the game. They amazed us with their technological understanding of the software.

Year 5 had not used the software ‘Sketch Me’ before but through resilience, they began to understand how it worked. They designed and built 3D houses and cars using their knowledge and understanding of shape and patterns from Maths.

Don’t forget to ask your child at home what an algorithm is and what algorithms are used within their games they play!
