Seal Class - World Science Day
Back to Latest News
As Wednesday 10th November was World Science Day, Seal Class enjoyed spending the day learning all about rocks.
First, we used small pieces of starburst to demonstrate how each rock type forms. We started by squishing the pieces together, in the same way particles are squashed together to form sedimentary rock. Then, we used pressure and the heat of our hands to represent how metamorphic rock undergoes pressure and heat. Finally, we heated the starburst rocks to show how igneous rock forms when molten rock cools.
We then completed some observational drawings of rocks in the classroom, looking at the appearance and texture of a range of rocks. Children enjoyed being rock detectives and used magnifying glasses to gain a closer look.
Finally, we explored what a geode is. Children used tools to investigate geodes!
Ask your child:
- In which type of rock are you most likely to find a fossil?
