Year 1 - Learning Outside the Classroom
Back to Latest News
This week in Year 1 we had a lot of fun taking part in a range of activities set outside the classroom. Firstly we visited our enchanted library. We chose a book and found a cosy place to sit and immerse ourselves in a new world.
We continued our reading journeys with a visit from Year 4. We spent some time reading with our Reading Buddies and tried hard to impress them with our reading skills.
After learning a bit about Diwali in assembly, we decided to create our own diva lamps. We used salt dough to make the shape and decorated them with sequins and other sparkly items.
To celebrate Fireworks night, Miss Smith took us to the Science garden, where we looked at the different plant life growing there as well as using fallen plant debris to create our own fireworks pictures. We tried so hard to include the different fireworks that we had been learning about, such as rockets, Catherine wheels, sparklers and roman candles.
Finally, as part of our free learning, we were set the task of creating a raft that could float on water so that animals could safely cross the river. We firstly tried to find the best materials which floated before designing and creating our rafts.
‘I made a roman candle out of a shell and feather. It shoots sparkles up high.’
‘The sticks are good at floating. I used 5 and wrapped together with string. It was hard.’
