Year 6 - Safer Internet Day

Year 6 marked Safer Internet Day by learning about artificial intelligence and how it can create realistic-looking images, videos, audio and text.

They explored how AI works by learning patterns in data and then using those patterns to generate new content, which isn’t always easy to spot. The children discussed ways to check if something is authentic, such as looking closely for unusual details, questioning the source, and thinking critically about what they see and hear.

They talked about how AI doesn’t mean nothing can be trusted, but it does mean we should be careful, curious, and confident digital citizens.

Some of our children shared thoughtful reflections, saying:

"I can spot AI-generated content by using my own intelligence and knowledge of the world."

"I know owls are nocturnal which can help me to question an image that shows one active during the day."

"I looked for small mistakes or details that don’t make sense in real life."

The discussions the children had showed how important it is to use critical thinking and real-world understanding when deciding what to trust online.
