Year 6 - Shang Dynasty WOW Day
Back to Latest News
Today, Year 6 learnt about the Shang Dynasty and the importance they had on Chinese society. The children took their learning outside and focussed on three major aspects of the Shang Dynasty: food during that time, jade carvings and artefacts with specific importance. For each activity, the children looked at the achievements, which were discovered during this time and looked at the importance they still have today. They were able to talk to each other about the similarities and changes between different periods of history, including the Bronze Age, Mayans and Shang Dynasty/ It was clear the children had a good understanding by the end of the afternoon as they were able to produce a double page spread based on their learning.
Some of our children said:
‘I enjoyed trying foods from each part of the hierarchy; it made me really understand who would have eaten what.’
‘I fond jade jewellery which showed the importance of jade during this time.’
‘I carved a tortoise onto the soap which represented jade carvings.’
‘Finding the different artefacts, like synthetics and pencils, showed the importance of these objects during this time.’
Well done Year 6 for showing a love for learning and engagement during your Wow Day!
