Year 3 - Light and shadow - Chinese New Year

In Science, Year 3 have studied light and shadow. We learnt that Light travels in a straight line from its source. When light reaches an opaque (solid) object, the light is prevented from moving through the object, leaving an area of darkness on the other side (a shadow). If an object is transparent, the light can move through it.

We linked our work in Science with the Chinese Lunar New Year. It began on January 29 and will end with the Lantern Festival on February 12. Celebrations may last 16 days, starting from New Year's Eve on January 28. The year 2025 marks the Year of the Wood Snake. Those born in this year are seen as resourceful and determined. We created shadow puppets using animals which appear on the Chines calendar.
