Year 1 were thrilled to take part in a workshop with The National Gallery, where children "visited" the art museum with a virtual tour of the building and its surroundings in Trafalgar Square. Children listened carefully to our guest speaker, who shared with us lots of interesting facts about the museum and the contents inside. We studied paintings such as Surprised by Henri Rousseau, Sunflowers by Vincent Van Gogh and Flowers in a Vase by Rachel Ruysch, thinking about the different artistic techniques used to create them, and how the artwork made us feel. The children then had a go at creating their own inspired pieces in our Creative Area.
