Year 3 - Diwali Dance Workshop

Today, year three participated in a Diwali dance workshop.

Why do we celebrate Diwali?

In northern India, they celebrate the story of King Rama's return to Ayodhya after he defeated Ravana by lighting rows of clay lamps.

Southern India celebrates it as the day that Lord Krishna defeated the demon Narakasura.

During this time people will also clean their homes and ensure every room is lit with lamps the night of Diwali, as it is believed that the goddess Lakshmi visits well-lit homes.

There are also celebrations with fireworks

We learnt several Indian dance moves and put them together in a sequence to celebrate Diwali.
