Year 6 - Chief Seattle's Speech

Today, Year 6 performed 'Chief Seattle's Speech' in assembly to the whole school.

In History, Year 6 have been learning about the Native Americans in North America and the importance of the different tribes. The children learnt the traditional Native American poem ‘Chief Seattle’s Speech’. This speech was a response letter written in 1854 from the Native Americans (in particular Chief Seattle) to the American Government about buying their land and the importance of the environment. Year 6 then learnt the ‘Free-Verse’ poem off by heart and performed this to the whole school. Throughout the course of last week, the children also wrote their own similar ‘‘Free-Verse’ poems about the environment.

Well done Year 6 for showing excellent understanding about the Native Americans in History, for showing respect about the environment in general and for being fantastic performers.
