Eco-Committee Litter-Picking Event

After the success the Eco-Committee had during the Dragons’ Den competition, the children wanted to put their litter-picking kits into action and here is what they decided to do!

Today, the Eco-Committee took part in a local litter-picking event. The children from the Eco-Committee organised and arranged the event themselves and invited schools from the local area. Prior to the event, each child in the Eco-Committee researched and discussed which litter they found would be the most common and from their research they decided it would be fast food litter. 

The children headed out to the manor and organised the route themselves. They collected many different types of rubbish like: plastic, cans, glass bottles, cigarette butts and confectionary packets. The children were disappointed at the vast amount of litter they found and were beginning to think of ways about how this could be reduced. Some of our children in the Eco-Committee said:

'We should make specific bins for cigarette butts.'

'Signs should be made to make people aware of where the bins are.'

'We should inform people about how much damage the litter is doing to our wildlife.'

The children in the Eco-Committee were proud of the difference they made from their litter-pick and they are already looking forward to their next event.
