Year 1 Eat Them to Defeat Them
Back to Latest News
Year 1 have highly enjoyed taking part in Eat Them to Defeat Them this term, a national campaign to encourage children to eat more vegetables. The children loved being part of the whole preparation process, reading the recipes and helping to prepare the vegetables in a variety of dishes. They have been particularly fascinated by the different ways vegetables can be served alongside herbs and seasonings, and how this changes the way they taste. Ask your child to tell you the vegetables they have defeated, and which was their favourite. Can your child help you to recreate the recipe at home?
So far, we have defeated:
Carrots (boiled)
Sweet potato (cakes)
Broccoli (stir-fried)
Red pepper (dip)
Cassava (fries)
Tomato (salsa)
Squash (soup)
"My favourite was the red pepper dip because I helped to make it” Rebecca
“I liked the red pepper dip because I got to dip tortilla dips” Patrick
“I loved the broccoli, it was crunchy” Tabita
“Now I’m going to try lots of new vegetables” Daniel
