To encourage the joy of reading, Year 5 and all at Drapers’ Maylands Primary School celebrated World Book Day. Our aim was to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of wonderful literature.

The children were invited to dress as a character from a book and spend the day in costume. The morning stared with a whole school assembly where the children had the opportunity to show off their chosen character for all to see. Prizes were awarded for the costume which reflected originality and ingenuity.

Later that morning, Year 5 enjoyed an 'Anansi' workshop with Adrien, one of our favourite story tellers.

In the afternoon, Year 5 shared reading with year 3. Each child was ‘buddied up’ and they read their books to each other.

It was amazing to see so many children involved this year reflecting just how much reading is an integral part of our learning and the incredible enthusiasm our children have for reading.
