Year 2 - Count down to Christmas
Back to Latest News
This week Year 2 took part in a workshop with author Alex T. Smith finding out more about his book 'The Nutcracker and The Mouse King'. We were able to find out more by asking him questions and even learnt how to draw Mouse King! This was a fantastic opportunity to start our Christmas countdown.
Year 2 have enjoyed some very muddy forest school sessions. As winter is getting closer we have helped the small animals that live in the forest by creating habitats so they can store food and hide from predators.
We have also travelled around the world, visiting each of the continents and locating them on a map by looking at the clues. Ask your child to name the continents in the world.
In science, we have been looking at micro-habitats so we went on a micro-habitat hunt where we found spiders, worms and beetles. We learnt that they love living in damp and dark spaces and we carefully looked for them under logs, stepping stones and in short grass.
"We found a microhabitat under a log and a worm was living there"
"Under a log it is damper and darker"
