Year 1 have enjoyed their unit of learning based on the Exotic Explorers visit, exploring animal patterns in our creative area.

In art lessons we have been studying the work of the famous artist Henri Matisse and in particular his famous collage 'The Snail'. We have recreated our own versions of this famous piece of artwork using a range of media such as: chalks, pencils, coloured pens, whiteboard pens, gems, buttons, natural resources and the drawing tools on the interactive whiteboard to create spiral patterns.

We were lucky enough to be visited by our school's Giant African Snail who helped inspired our snail patterned art work.

Ask your child about who Henri Matisse was? Can they create any spiral art based on 'The Snail' at home?

We have been enjoying the animal themes across our continuous provision areas such as shelter building in the construction area, making repeated pattern snakes with the hexiflex and our pet shop outside.

Ask your child which has been their favourite area to learn in?
