Year 6 had the fantastic opportunity to take part in the Junior Citizens trip and competition. They got to experience a wide variety of activities with members of the fire brigade, police, ambulance services and youth workers to help them become good citizens when they transition into secondary school. For each activity, they got to earn points for their behaviour, listening skills and knowledge.
Some of the activities included:
- Discussing what to do in case of a fire
- Discussing the dangers of drug use and what to do in various social situations
- Learning the laws and risks around carrying knives
- Learning about the laws around inappropriate images and what to do if someone sends you one
- Learning how to help someone if they are unwell or unconscious
- Discussing how to be respectful and follow the rules when using public transport
The team at Junior Citizens were impressed by the behaviour of the Maylands children, and we look forward to hearing if we earnt enough points to move into the next stage of the competition.
