Wow, what a wonderful day World Book Day was! We have loved celebrating World Book Day and sharing our love for reading across the school. We were very impressed by all of the effort and imagination that went into creating such wonderful costumes!

The day started with a fantastic assembly from our special visitor. The children had so much fun joining in with the immersive storytelling experience. He retold the most fascinating African tale about Anansi the spider, we all listened attentively and were able to retell the story later in class.

We later followed this with a workshop, where we were able to get into character and express our thoughts and feelings. We had a lot of fun creating freeze frames of the different parts of the Anansi story, really thinking through the use of our bodies and faces.

We were also very lucky to visit the Year 1 classrooms and garden area, reading stories to the children and listening to them read to us. Year 4 did a wonderful job of helping the younger children with using their phonics to sound out the words in the story. Ask your child what they read with their reading buddy!

Finally we thoroughly enjoyed it when our teachers retold the story of Little Red Riding Hood to us, acting out all the different parts. It was so funny! We then created our own versions of the story, such as Little Red Astronaut.
