In Year 1, we have been enjoying our ‘Toy Story’ topic so much that we wanted to make our own toys for Andy’s birthday. We started by designing our toy based on a design criteria. We carefully chose the body, eyes, number of legs and arms it would have and some of us even decided to give it wings or a tail! Then we created them using a range of varied materials: yogurts pots, potatoes, pipe cleaners, googly eyes, and many more things. Look at some of our creations!

We were also fortunate enough to have a few furry creatures visit our school. We met a guinea pig and her babies, two very friendly (and hungry) goats and some relaxed lambs. We had so much fun stroking and feeding them.

In history, we got a big surprise. After discussing different houses throughout history and were given photos for us to look at and decided if we thought it was an old house or a new house. When we received our house, we found photos of our houses! It was so much fun discussing if we thought our houses were old and new. We then plotted our houses on a current map of Harold Hill. Once we had found our houses on a current map, we looked at a map from around 100 years ago and discussed how Harold Hill has changed. Most of us recognised that we would have lived where farm land used to be. We also recognised that some things were still the same, such as Gallows Corner roundabout.

In Art Rabbit class learnt what printing is and we explored this technique using a range of objects, from nature and from class. Some of us decided to make a print of our Lego pieces!

It was very wet his week in the forest but that didn’t stop us. We used the rain to help us create mud for tree spirits, created small shelters of insects and attempted to make a den where we could keep dry.
