Year 6 - Road Safety Week
Back to Latest News
This week in Year 6, we took part in Road Safety Week 2021, which is organised by Brake, the road safety charity. Road Safety Week has been a great opportunity for us to talk about road safety. The theme of Road Safety Week 2021 was Road Safety Heroes, celebrating the heroic work of everyone helping to improve road safety. We spoke about different Road Safety Heroes who help people make safe and healthy journeys and support people after a road crash. We also discussed how everyone can be a Road Safety Hero by using roads safely, to protect ourselves and other people. We presented our learning in a Chatta, where we took on the role of a Road Safety Officer, and presented our speeches to the class. Ask your child to explain how you too can become a Road Safety Hero.
During Theme we created the Totem Poles, which we had designed last week. We used cardboard and toilet roll tubes to create them, and paint on our designs to bring our Totem Poles to life!
In Literacy this week, we took on the role of some of our favourite characters from the book ‘Holes’, and wrote diary entries from their perspective for exciting moments from the story. We focused on writing in an informal style and using creative vocabulary to show the character’s feelings. Ask your child who they took on the role of in their writing.
In Maths, we continued to learn about fractions and learnt how to use a coin card to find percentages of a number. Ask your child what a coin card is and how they are useful in Maths!
