Parent Governor Vacancy

We are seeking a new parent governor to join our welcoming governing body.

Our governors come from a range of backgrounds, with different skills and experience, all sharing the common interest of wanting the best possible education for the children in our school.

We are inviting parents to stand for election as a parent governor for Drapers' Maylands Primary School, or to nominate another parent to do so. The term of office for this role is 4 years. Please see the below advert which explains the

Who can stand for election?

To be able to volunteer, you must be a parent, carer (or someone who has parental responsibility) for a child at Drapers’ Maylands Primary School. You do not need any specific qualifications. Please see the attached document which summarises the circumstances under which someone cannot serve as a parent governor.

To fulfil the role, you will need to:

  • attend regular meetings (around 4 each year)
  • visit the school occasionally
  • do some background reading
  • take part in induction training and ongoing development (which will be provided for you)
  • undertake a Disclosure and Barring and Section 128 check (carried out by the Trust)

Every governing board needs a balance and diversity of knowledge, skills and experience, and every parent, carer (or someone with parental responsibility) is welcome to apply.

How to apply

Please complete the enclosed nomination form and return it to me no later than Tuesday 18th November at 3.00 p.m. If you are putting someone else forward for nomination, please make sure they are happy for you to do so.

If there are more nominations than vacancies, we will conduct a secret ballot. If that is necessary, voting papers and instructions will be sent to all parents and carers.
