Year 1 Maylands' Masterchef

Year 1 have loved taking part in Maylands' Masterchef this week. The children have been practising the skills needed to cook their chosen dish, corn tortillas with picadillo, inspired by their Costa Rica unit of work in the Spring term. The children have learned about the importance of food safety and hygiene, how to wash and prepare vegetables, weigh and measure ingredients and knead dough into the correct consistency. They have also practised using the bridge hold when cutting with knives and the claw grip when grating to make sure we keep our hands safe. Year 1 children then used this learning to create booklets and a Chatta presentation to share with children in Reception. We can't wait to find out who makes it to the next round of Maylands' Masterchef!
